Hello Fountain Pen community. Over the past summer, I've found the community to be warm and welcoming and I want to find a way to contribute, a blog seemed like the likely route to document my journal and make some friends along the way. My name is Archeopen and some of you may have seen me chatting in Twitch.
My journey into fountain pens, which started much earlier than me owning my first pen, is likely similar to other's. Get pen, become obsessed, LOL. Actually, I was first introduced to fountain pens from following #edc on Mastodon. Every night these beautiful writing instruments would come across my screen and after a while I started to look up what they were. Pilot's, TWSBI's, Sailor's and more. I knew if I went down this road it would lead to a rabbit hole so deep, and I was right!
Fast forward to June 2024, just a few months ago, I decided now's the time and took the plunge. I've been obsessed ever since and totally gave into pen, stationary and ink whims. I pulled the trigger on a Platinum Preppy after researching good starter pens and splurged buying the converter and a bottle of ink, Diamine Mediterranean Blue. I figured why not? I also quickly grabbed a sample pack of paper to try out different fountain pen friendly papers. Once everything arrived, I opened up the package and was smitten. After quick rinse of the converter, I inked it up and started to write. I was in love. The writing was so smooth! Couldn't believe it. From there I quickly ordered another bottle of ink, TWSBI sky blue ( I like blue, can you tell?) and went to town with swatching these two inks in the sample notebooks. I had all the notebooks laid out on the table. It was the neatest thing to see how each notebook accepted the ink. Some better than others. The inks I got were standard inks, which I knew nothing about at the time.
I would be amiss if I didn't mention the passing of my little baby cat Benny in July which drove me more into stationery. He was on my lap when I hit that buy button on my first pen. Being able to work out my feelings in a journal is incredibly helpful. I mention this because I'm looking for ways to extend his memory, his energy and the joy he brought to the house everyday. The wife, step-son and his two other furry brother's miss him to pieces. Pens, stationery, and ink are a joy for me and I wanted to pass along that joy to the community. So, join my little corner of the internet for this journey into stationery and pen madness.
I don't know how often I can post, and I will look to write about my new journey and share it with all of you from a beginner's eyes. So each new ink, pen, stationary or other cool, cute little accessory I get, I'll share.
Join me in this inky little journey.
